All my life, I have pondered on the strange phenomena of the human species. It has always seemed incredible that such complex, conscious and creative beings such as ourselves could have evolved simply by accidental mutation, Evolution seems to progress into every increasing complex forms of life. Random mustations are usually birth defects; it is hard to believe that positive mutations would occur at all. I have always sensed that evolution has deliberate purpose, that there is some kind of conscious intelligence driving the process, that somehow life KNOWS what it is doing to create more adaptive forms. Anyway, that is what I explore in this book.
This book is more of an academic essay written for the general population. It definitely needs some re-modeling with bibliographies and references. This current version is more of a draft. If I see an interest in this work, I will have this more carefully edited. Meanwhile, if you see something of interest to you such as a reference to a particular scientist or thinker, just google it - or even better, go to the library. I plan to add a bibliography and index later.
This work argues both against the usual Darwinist version of evolution - and the religious notion that some Divine Creator just made us, the world and its inhabitants instantly. My argument is that there is a Cosmic Intelligence which designed this universe step by step. This Cosmic Intelligence is not "outside" the universe; it is "inside" the universe, as if the universe were making itself up as it goes along - perhaps to achieve increasingly greater states of awareness, initiative and creativity.
I refer to a number of important scientists, philosophers, mystics, and spiritual teachers such as Charles T. Tart, Ken Wilbur, Arthur Koestler, Richard Dawkins (a skeptic), Meher Baba, Sri Aurobindo, G.I. Gurdjieff, Christian Fundamentalism, Lamarck, Darwin, Scientism, Theosophy, and others with their perspectives on what evolution is all about. I am careful to cite scientific evidence and explore skeptics' points of view. I may add some others in future editions.
"The Book of No-Thing" follows this theme more as a story. It also appears in other writings of mine, such as Dogstar's vision.
I hope your are either stimulated or enraged by the thesis here. I like to shock people with questions that perhaps some do not dare ask. And I would love to hear your comments and arguments john_forrest@verizon.net
One P.S. I would like to add is your reading experience might be better to view it on your computer or in landscape mode on your . I have had some odd mis-formatting in converting Word documents into .
IS THIS ALL A BIG ACCIDENT? OR IS IT CONSCIOUSLY PLANNED? edition by JohnForrest Bamberger Religion Spirituality eBooks
Never mind the long title, busy cover, and the disclaimer that it's a work in progress. It's really a very interesting book and polished enough to keep distractions at a very low level.Like the author, I have spent time wondering how all this came to be and what it might imply. Unlike the author, though, I have been too lazy to pursue that interest through the daunting forest of strongly-held opinions, belief systems, and mind-cramping academic philosophies. Fortunately, the author comes to the rescue with this very readable summary and reaction to some very interesting literature that I only wish I had the patience for. While he makes no apologies for his personal biases, he makes a credible effort to give voice to differing opinions-- sort of arguing both sides but pulling for one, without claiming superior authority.
It's actually easy reading, almost conversational in tone, which I appreciate. The effect is that the ideas can be taken in and argued with much more easily than if one actually reads the literature, which by necessity is much more laboriously presented. It was/is inspirational reading for me, and I appreciate the author doing the heavy lifting for me. Glad I found it.
